La Bestia Magnifica

Consider this post a vote cast for Hollywood's reviving the lost art of the Mexican luchador movie.  If you're not familiar with the genre, it combined aspects of lucha-libre wrestling with sci-fi, horror, and gangster movies.  Let's start with a super-spectacular, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Phillippe, Keanu Reeves, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Will Smith, Jason Statham, and Sam Worthington as El Santo.  Let's make it in 3-D.  We'll get Guy Ritchie (or even Paul Verhoeven) to direct.

This is the kind of movie I could sit through six or seven times and still buy the DVD when it comes out.  I'm telling you, this could be bigger than the "Jai Ho" number at the end of Slumdog Millionaire.

While you ponder the norte-americano cinema that could be, feast your eyes on the following excerpts from 1953's somewhat high-browed La Bestia Magnifica.  (via jarrett421)
