Jungleboy vs Horchata King

Adrian Quest vs Nate Coy, The Resurexxion Rumble (Southern California Wrestling Alliance)

A big thank-you to Freddie Young, troublemaker and bossman at Living Room Wrestling (LRW), whose recent Facebook post drew my attention to "Jungleboy" Nate Coy. Even if this particular jungle boy's turf verges on Dawson's Creek, I'm a huge fan of jungle boys, jungle lords, and jungle adventures since age seven or eight, to which long-lived fanaticism this blog (specifically its title) amply attests. Only later in life did I realize that the amount of skin on display in the typical jungle adventure was what gave the genre its edge over war movies, musicals, melodramas, and westerns. (Somewhat later I discovered Kirk Morris and the peplum genre.)

In this friendly pre-show match from last summer, "Horchata King" Adrian Quest's heel potential, evident in the meticulous way he works Nate on the mat and against the turnbuckle, catches my eye as often as the jungle boy's lithe, Pre-Raphaelite beauty. (Curiously, Nate does more hair-pulling than Adrian; Adrian misses a huge opportunity.) The match is evidently a showcase for wrestlers in training. The "Resurexxion" theme refers to the fact that this is SCWA's first show in over 14 years, so Coy vs Quest is a terrific kickoff. A leather loincloth might suit the gimmick better, but the epithet along with Nate's wiry body and copious curls is enough to draw me in.

  1. Nate Coy bears a resemblance, not facially, but in build and hair to Steve Simpson from the old Dallas Von Erich promotion.

    2. True. Although Nate is more shredded and even more beautiful than Steve.
