The Jaws of Defeat

Jeff Sheperd vs Logan Cross, Catalog 4 - Muscle Boys Bring the Heat (MuscleBoy Wrestling)

Jeff and Logan put me in mind of the 1960s. Not the '60s of the Doors, Abbie Hoffman, and Woodstock, but the earlier '60s of Gene Pitney, John Glenn, and Disneyland. Something about these stills suggests the wrestlers would be at home in Physique Pictorial  or a 3-D slide on a View-Master reel. Logan, in particular, reminds me of a guy I saw at age 10 in Disneyland, the image burned in memory by the fancy I had that he might be somebody semi-famous, who had perhaps guest-starred on The Donna Reed Show  or Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. He was tinged with my boyhood notion of Coppertone male beauty and brotherliness. Apparently these haircuts and body styles are coming back.

Take a wild guess what happens in this match. Do you think the trained indy wrestler (Sheperd, 5'10", 175#) wins? Or do you think the Brylcreem cutie (Cross, 5'4", 140#) will snatch victory from the jaws of defeat? The catalog description pretty much gives it all away, even if you can't connect the dots among the screen shots above. The deck is stacked in hairy-chested Jeff's favor. But I enjoyed the match (with a running time nearing 16 minutes) even with no surprises, caught up in Sheperd's knowledge of holds and attacks, including a brilliant septuple finisher - forearm smash, shoulder thrust, snapmare, jackhammer, torture rack, pile-driver, and Mexican surfboard (niiice, Jeff!) and, obviously, Cross's caramel tan.
