Mike Honcho vs Ref Trevor, Match 611 (UCW)

I'm amazed, excited, and a little turned on by Honcho and Trevor. At the end of last month, I remarked in passing that Austin Tyler represented a new era at UCW. This fight between these two hot wild boys is the fruition of that era. At the start, Mike (hair) tells Trevor (less hair) in no uncertain terms that he doesn't approve of dirty ring tactics. "I'm here to fight fair," Trevor assures him. Mike has doubts about it, but still bites (not in the literal sense - biting comes later), and you don't have to be President of the United States to guess how that turns out for him. But just in case you can't guess, as Mike reaches up to clasp his opponent's hand in a test of strength, Trevor tweaks his nipples and kicks him in the groin - baBAM!

The setup could not be more perfect for me. How many times on this blog have I mentioned my justice fetish? Well, the start and middle of this match fits right into it. We have a clean-fighting good guy (Honcho) taking on a dirty-dealing bad guy (Trevor). In the course of the match, Honcho realizes that to defeat a heel you must fight fire with fire. However, whether he succeeds in curbing Trevor's natural viciousness is revealed only in the battle's final seconds. Far be it from me to say more on the subject, but I do love the way this match ends.

The execution is perfect, too. The nastiness is the same nastiness we've seen in other UCW videos - sucker punches, hair pulling, nipple pinches, rope chokes, bitch slaps, toe- and finger-cracking, foreign objects - but Trevor and Honcho have their own highly theatrical styles in carrying out these violations. For one thing they pre-sell some of their key tactics - by which I mean they not only clearly express their intentions through facial expressions and body language but also attempt a tactic at least once before actually delivering it. The camerawork is exceptionally good at catching the details of villainy - as in a tight closeup of Mike tormenting Trevor's bandaged fingers - a fantastic moment and a great example of Honcho fighting fire with fire.

Two words come readily to mind when trying to describe these wrestlers - sexy  and savage. What more can a UCW fan like me ask for? All right, I want more. More of Honcho and Trevor.
