Let's Do This

Having followed Michael Hannigan from his days as a wrestling cub to his recent resurrection as a bad-ass, I have feelings for the guy. He returned to UCW this summer after an absence of over three years, and in this, only his second appearance since his homecoming, he challenges Angel Estrada for the championship. Angel I remember mostly for his droll, often sick, sense of humor, and the daring he exhibits in every fight. He scraps like a rabid animal. He recognizes no boundaries as a competitor, though he usually cuts his savagery with a comic sensibility.

I don't recall whether the two have faced-off previously. The pairing is both unusual and timely. I would have not bet much on Hannigan back in 2015, but his present incarnation has been a shock. The new Hannigan is far more hardcore and far more theatrical than frankly I ever imagined he could be. He comes on strong from the beginning of this 30-minute fight and loses no momentum as Estrada throws at him everything but the kitchen sink. Hannigan's resilience and resourcefulness under pressure make this title match a nail-biter to the bitter end, when the heatedly contested belt becomes the weapon that ultimately determines who its owner will be.
