Rocky Romero vs Clark Connors, Defyance Forever (DEFY Wrestling)

Two styles of wrestler on exhibit in this match from last August. One dominates the GIFs on display here, probably because it's the style I prefer. Hot-headed brute Clark Connors is a rageoholic, whose strategy is to go all berserker and smash and clobber his opponent. This, you may or may not be surprised to hear, is a style I like, even when the wrestler lacks the Ivan Drago profile and classic strongman build of Connors. Opposite him, Rocky Romero is a cool cat who shimmies out of carefree exuberance  and confounds his opponents with tricks right out of Looney Tunes. Specifically he is Roadrunner continually defusing the strong-arm tactics of the Coyote. This natural, halfhearted smoothness is humorous, even charming, as it lays a blustering fire-eater low with just a finger tap (boink!) to the forehead.

Connors is a Teutonic robot. Romero is a volatile Latino. When Rocky Romero gets pissed off, the cartoon effects vanish, and he can play the psycho-killer role as well as Connors. Both transformations have a shock effect. Clark Connors goes from monolith to Raging Bull. Romero goes from Joker to Dirty Harry. Adding to his versatility and menace, Romero is a mixed martial artist and an accomplished luchador, wrestling for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) since 2003. With less than three years in the ring, Connors is still relatively new to the game. The two wrestlers are similar in build (Clark, 5'8", 185#; Romero, 5'7", 172#), contributing to the fight's texture. Both currently wrestle for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).
