Over the Top Rope

Zack Reno vs Axel, Match 724 - Over the Top Rope (UCW)

Two champions are in the ring. Their mission is to cast the other guy over the top rope and onto the ringside floor. The UCW championship belt is at stake.

Zack Reno and Axel are cool-headed strategists, not prone to flashy gestures or intense emotions. They are more or less even in their ring skills, so the early attempts to hurl each other over the ropes do not pay off. Wearing down a strong and well-trained opponent is the only way to eject him in the manner required for a win in this sort of match, so the battle is touch and go for most of its 30 minutes, with Axel holding a slight edge for most of the battle.

Both wrestlers look fantastic, especially when they grapple on the ring floor, but an over-the-ropes match requires bulk or raw energy that just isn't there. Great as both wrestlers are, this isn't the right match for them. It may be that both are too good for this shtick. Or maybe it's the sort of match that requires the wild-man energy of Cheetah Boy or El Fuego or, going back in time, Joker or Quinn Harper. As it is, the match is best when the wrestlers are punching abs instead of attempting to heave each other over the ropes. These are the moments the wrestlers seem least self-conscious, most engaged with each other, and most physical.
