Knocked Up

Axel vs Bruno, Match 727 - UCW Boxing in Jocks (UCW)

Punching was a taboo UCW violated in its earliest wrestling videos. Now the company gives us its version of boxing - "no-rules" - in which Axel and Bruno box horizontally on the mat almost as much as they do on their feet. And they do it in jockstraps!  It's an audacious idea that UCW has been toying with for several years, and it works. This match also gives Axel a crack at new hire Bruno in his third UCW appearance. Axel has the home field advantage, and Bruno has the big muscles. There's nothing dainty about those bronzed shoulders and back, as Axel soon discovers.

The bell sounds, and the two warriors come into view on opposite sides of the screen. Bruno leads with a lefthanded gut punch. Axel answers with a couple of left jabs to the forehead, strong enough to make Bruno stagger backwards into the  corner ropes. Axel presses in with his left shoulder pinning Bruno to the turnbuckle while his right glove delivers a sextet of body blows, punctuated with a solid right hook to the jaw. Bruno reverses and retaliates, pummeling Axel's gut and dealing something close to a knockout punch.

Bruno doesn't follow through, however. He backs off, a decision he may soon regret. The two exchange more blows. The heat rises. The eroticism of boxing rests in its punches - hard and fast thrusts mirroring copulation. The knockout punch is its equivalent to orgasm. Of course, in jockstraps, Axel and Bruno bring the carnal subtext of the sport to the surface - as if words like low blow, clinch, bare knuckles, fist, head-butt, and sucker punch weren't titillating enough.

The 26-minute match has its weak points - the ending falters, undoubtedly the result of fatigue - but Match 727 is too good to miss. Five minutes in, Bruno is breaking a sweat, and watching the winner collapse on his opponent, his damp pouch brushing up against the loser's face, is a particular treat.

  1. This match seems to be over choreographed. It lacks energy and intensity. There doesn't appear to be any real chemistry between the two characters. It's like watching actors pretending to fight. Bruno's physique leaves much to be desired for someone so full of themselves. I'd definitely never support his work nor any collaborations.
