Lobo Gris vs Cheetah Boy, Match 735 (UCW)

In his second match for UCW, Lobo Gris faces Cheetah Boy. Lobo debuted this past summer, while Cheetah had a seven-month jump on him. Both are relatively new to the company, yet their benefits to the roster were immediate. Apart from the mask, Cheetah's most distinguishing characteristic is his inexhaustible buoyancy in front of the camera - on the mat or in the ring. Late in August, Lobo debuted in an oil match, the viewing of which caused me to bust my zipper fly. He performed amazingly well against a more experienced opponent, but my "wardrobe malfunction" was due in part to his resemblance to JFK Jr. and Lorenzo Lamas - two figures from my fantasies in the seventies.

This match features a whirlwind of give and take. The two rookies are closely matched, though their styles are different. Lobo is more traditional in his approach to wrestling, though he caught on to the company's freewheeling ways in his first match. Cheetah Boy is far more outlandish in his attacks - scratches, nipple burns, low bites (a logical next step after low blows). Lobo quickly learns how to counter these maneuvers, the result being a fight that's neck and neck to the end.

Cheetah Boy starts the match in high gear. "You know my name?" he asks. Unlike Cheetah, Lobo Gris won't feign ignorance of who his opponent is, but he takes umbrage at being called "bitch." A brief shoving contest cues the ring bell to sound, and the two lock up  Lobo's height and muscle give him an early lead. He clamps Cheetah in a full nelson and swings him like a pendulum. Then he falls backwards turning the nelson into a full body lock. Cheetah counters with a bear hug, spinning his heavier opponent around and dropping him on his back. Two minutes in, and it's clear these guys mean business.

The match ends with a full and unrushed three count, but it's likely these two have business to settle at some future date.
