Paris, When It Sizzles

Franz van Buyten vs Robert Gastel, 5 July 1971 (Wrestling in Paris)

Most of the GIFs capture the meaty center of the 28-minute event, during which Belgian wrestler Buyten (in white trunks) and French wrestler Gastel (in black) shift, mostly out of frustration, from fair-and-square grappling to grinding punishment. Shortly after the midpoint, the contest veers into fisticuffs, making the ref's job three times harder than it needs to be. In the end, a couple of body slams leaves one man vulnerable enough for the other to get a clean cross-body pin on him - still one of the hottest finishers in wrestling, especially when sweat is involved. Buyten, then in his early thirties, has the square jaw and stout muscularity I think is best for ring wrestling. He looks like he could have inspired  Tom of Finland's Kake character, who was the subject of a postage stamp in Finland (so much sexier than the USA).
