Lobo Gris vs Gabe Steel, Match 784 (UCW)

Lobo Gris is surprised to find out his opponent is Gabe Steel. He doesn't find out until he's in the ring and sees Steel strolling towards him. He wasn't even aware Steel was in town. It's a "dream come true" for Lobo, who's had one incredibly dreamy year at UCW and other top underground promotions. Gabe seems just as delighted to be in the ring with Lobo as Lobo is to meet his idol. But this match is a bumpy ride for both wrestlers - and a magnificent adrenaline-pumping brawl for me and, I'm sure, many other viewers, too.

I can't remember the last UCW match that had this many twists and turns. I don't want to spoil anything for my fellow fans, but I will say that the erotic and combative aspects of the match converge and diverge like (but more briskly than) other UCW matches in recent years. Low blows and slow strokes are exchanged frequently- and feelingly, if you, like me, can imagine what various kinds of body contact feel like. The blows, stretches, and slams are believable and well timed. These wrestlers hold back nothing, and neither is a novice at this game. Respect and admiration aside, both wrestlers are here to fight.

The erotic subtext is there from the start, but it manifests itself more forcefully as the match progresses. At the beginning  Lobo Gris is wearing a gray singlet that comes off before the halfway point is reached. After that, he is in tight China-red trunks. Even at his most clothed, Lobo is sexy and aggressive - as is Steel. Gabe is in silky turquoise from start to finish, and the silkiness hides almost nothing.

I would have to say both men take the fighting aspect of the match very seriously, and neither seems to have boundaries he's unwilling to cross. This is a rough and tough match - in the upper percentiles of roughness and toughness, compared to most underground wrestling. There's a hint of flirtation in their aggressiveness, but it never slows them from trying to beat the other guy up.

  1. I’m going to reconsider this match now that I know the singlet comes off… 😉

  2. I’ve seen both of these guys in non wrestling venues where they get their balls worked over for real! And they both seem to really enjoy it. Particularly Steel.
