Unexpected

Tyson and Derrick deliver just what I expected: the unexpected. Both men are electric in the squared circle, delivering jolt after jolt after jolt. To his credit, the Hammer, former UCW champion, does not flinch from livewire Cole's cache of crazy-malicious assaults - and even holds a surprise in store for the madman with a Joker's insidious grin - though, yes, predictably Tyson puts his pedal to the floorboard, too, more than once. (Tyson fans know what I mean.)

I won't lie, though. It's Derrick Cole who sets the wrestling ring on fire and chortles as it blows up in flames - figuratively speaking ... mostly. Cole works fast, darting from one dirty trick to the next in just seconds. UCW villains always seem like they've leapt out of comic books - Joker, Eli, Quinn, and Cantrell - yeah, I am talking about you guys. Derrick, though, is uniquely out of control. He slips from one hold to the next as if it were by accident, but that understates the man's agile pivots and fast reflexes.

The ending caught me by surprise. Obviously, there are only two ways to end: either Tyson wins, or Derrick. A draw or disqualification is highly unlikely at UCW because the company has no rules. Still, something happens that I did not see coming - an old and highly revered finisher that's more WCCW than UCW, but it looks beautifully in place here, too.

  1. I've never seen a company so allergic to making money like this one is. Isn't any business on the internet all about getting people to buy their product ? If that is the case then tell me why this match is happening. Lets talk Booking 101 for a second. If you just had the best selling match in your website's history a month ago with Tyson and Cheetah Kid (as stated on UCW's facebook page), why would you not put them in a series of rematches and build to something special. This feels like there are 2 dartboards hanging on a wall in Claymont Delaware. One has all the wrestlers on it and the other has stipulations. Thats how you come up with combinations like this that dont work. If you're a website that comes out every week with a new match, or 2 on those rare occasions, and most of the guys live in the area, you can do storylines and angles that no other company can or has done. That takes creativity and work, 2 things that obviously aren't on either of those dartboards. In closing, there is a bright side to all this, at least there wasn't stupid chloroform again this week !!!
