Gabe Steel vs Brad Honeycutt, Catalog 19 - Muscle Boys Go At It (MuscleBoy Wrestling)

There's a whole lot of emoting going on in the last and shortest of MuscleBoy's Catalog 19 matches. And here I thought Scrappy was expressive! Steel and Honeycutt breeze through frowns, grimaces, scowls, and smirks, leaping from one spot to the next like they're at a beatdown marathon. Honeycutt is insanely confident in taking on a wrestler of Steel's muscle and experience, but he holds his own against the man, for the most part, and both prove themselves masters in ring psychology.

According to the listed MuscleBoy stats, only an inch and 15 pounds separate these two, but Gabe seems to tower over Brad when he's not stretching and squashing him like an accordion. Just over halfway through the 30-minute match, Brad shocks Gabe (and probably himself) by overcoming his constantly grinning  tormentor. While Gabe conquers through big, bold crunches and stretches, Brad counters with tiny detail work on the knees and hands (6th and 8th GIFs above).

There's no doubt but that these moves are crippling, but they are delivered with such brisk comic timing and Roadrunner recovery rates that it feels like a fairgrounds ride - something between bumper cars and tilt-a-whirls. My favorite Catalog 19 match is still Reign versus Milani, but Steel versus Honeycutt is a droll and G-rated chaser.

  1. I'm just going by the GIFs, but I like it better when Hunnicutt's in charge. Firstly, he looks good at it, but IMO, he oversells the mugging when he's not.
