Brotherly Love

The Iron Claw, written and directed by Sean Durkin, A24

I went to the matinee. There was me plus five other guys between 40 and 70 sitting uncomfortably alone. Each of us had four rows to himself. Clearly, not one of us had somebody who cared to see the movie with us.

I liked the movie and can't wait to buy the Blu Ray version to add to my collection. The movie is not so much about pro wrestling as it is about family, pain, loss, and, in a spectral scene near the end, the afterlife.

I wept more than I expected, about eight times after I started counting. I should have had an erection, too, but I will wait for the Blu Ray so I can freeze frame and slow-mo the hot, sweaty, bulgy, red-state bodies. (The movie depicts its conservative milieu - i.e. Texas - without judgment and depicts its flaws authentically enough for viewers to decrypt for themselves.)

The four brothers are played by Zac Efron (Kevin), Jeremy Allen White (Kerry), Harris Dickinson (David), and Stanley Simons (Mike). Apparently, little or no attempt is made to make the actors look like the wrestlers they play, in height or facial features, but names are repeated enough to recognize who is who. Harris/David is the most fuckable of the lot, but I wouldn't kick Zac/Kevin and Jeremy/Kerry out of bed either. I'll attend to my fantasies at some future date (see previous paragraph).

I liked everything in the movie. It's not exactly what I expected, but it had enough of what I expected to satisfy my curiosity about this iconic family and feel a tad horny, too. It doesn't showcase the dark side of pro wrestling the way 2008's The Wrestler does - the two films are not comparable, except that both of them deserve to be seen by wrestling fans.

P.S. Lily James steals every scene she is in.

  1. Just saw this movie yesterday and it was great but sad. While I didn’t get hard either, the cock was definitely moist when I used the men’s room after - in that precum kinda way. And I’ll take Kevin so we can share!! Happy New Year and looking forward to more of your great write-ups this year! Thanks!

  2. I see the blu-ray is out and I’m wondering if you’ve gotten it and (1) if so is there any extra material that’s worth it (ie interesting or sick hardening) and (probably more importantly) (2) if so how many times have you jacked off and to which scene(s)? Mine would probably be the bloodying of Ric Flair!

    1. Let's see. There's promo material with the principal cast, KVE, KVE's boys (I've got Ross on layaway), trainer Chavo Guerrero (certified hunk god), and director Sean Durkin. My jack-off scene is also Kevin vs Flair - especially for the rage element that DQs Kev.
