Fight 9

Candyman vs Legend, Fight 9 (Black Wrestling Network)

Noted for its twisty plot lines and extended character arcs, BWN has been something of a grab bag of underground wrestling delights. I've never been sure what I'd be getting when I ordered a video there, always suspecting there might be too much backstory to catch up on. Helpfully the company started labeling its matches since last I  had checked in - Beatdowns, Competitive, Erotica, and Xtra. "Competitive" looks like the group for me since I favor evenly paired wrestlers - wrestling, done right, is all the erotica or XXX I need to get my rocks off.

Legend's baby face and bulgy hard body drew me to this recent release. Since I couldn't find him on the roster and located only one other match of his, I assume he is new to the company. The setup here is that the handsome babyface is responding to a challenge recently issued by Punisher when Candyman ambushes him, attacking him from behind and choking him out. Evidently Candyman targets young studs like Legend, building his collection of trophy boys through conquest. Candyman is in the process of stripping Legend down to his blue trunks when the rookie comes to and fights back. Then it turns out that Legend lured Candyman into this fight, even wearing the Andrew Christian briefs he knew Candyman likes on his boys. (I did say "twisty plot," right?)

The tension is thick, and the struggle is hot for the next 43 minutes. Low camera angles, suspenseful strains of music, and occasional slow-motion shots let viewers immerse themselves in the action. This is more than horseplay. These guys aim for the jugular. The legit holds are some of my favorites - arm bars, bear hugs, inside cradles, and rear naked chokes. There's more talky exposition than I usually care for in my wrestling, but at least Candyman and Legend don't let it interrupt the grappling. In the end, one of these guys gets choked out cold and finds himself strapped to a chair. Is this the end? or the beginning?

  1. I buy matches from ucw, bgeast, bgenterpise (at clips4sale), spotland scrappers, hunkswrestling, etc. Sometimes I love the matches, sometimes I'm disappointed. At $10 to $20 per match, I can live with that.

The match you review here is $49!! If I bought it and really loved it, I'd still wonder why I didn't get 3 matches from bgeast. And if I was disappointed...

Their stuff looks great to me - very hot guys. But it's too expensive.

    1. The BWN matches I've seen have all been high quality, but I agree that the pricing for downloads is too steep, one reason I've seen only five matches over the last nine years. Like most sites, they have a monthly membership, but I'm not keen on monthly memberships that don't include free downloads.

  2. Keep in mind that you can actually view this match for less than any price point of any competitor anywhere: $9.95. That would be by getting a Day Pass ($19.95) and applying the $10 text message coupon code (bottom of every page) to get it down to $9.95. Furthermore, once you've paid less than $10 you can then watch as many other matches in their entirety as you'd like for the duration. That isn't a membership, so it won't renew.
