Ace Is Gonna Kill You!
Ace Aarons vs Cody Blayde, Last Man Standing 3 (BG East)
Like Jonny Firestorm's epic run-in with Zach Reno, Aarons vs Blayde showcases two indie wrestlers engaged in a last man standing match. Like that match, this one stands as an instant classic, proving my hunch that promotions like BGE should reserve their rings for pros who know how to work a ring and create a running narrative - rather than parading disconnected holds and attacks.
Cody poses as an upstart who believes he can beat Ace by virtue of his youth and enthusiasm. Whether he can or cannot, I will not say, but he does provide the sardonic veteran - whose mastery of ring psychology is indisputable - with a damn good fight that's unpredictable all the way to its final seconds.
Ace supplies all the nastiness the squared circle can hold. He pulls hair, fish-hooks the kid's nostrils, punches the guy in the face, and stomps his well-muscled body into the canvas. But this is not the squash job you might be expecting. Cody is more than his skateboard stylings might suggest. Blayde is resilient, strong, and just as capable of inflicting punishment as his somewhat more experienced adversary. The still shots cannot capture the energy and bounce of these two guys taking and delivering licks, but this, coupled with Firestorm vs Reno, should make Last Man Standing 3 a classic for the ages.
