Sammy Smooth vs Ashley Dunn, Clash! Bang! Wallop! (Pro Wrestling Clash)
I analyzed the main event of this 2018 show a year ago. Smooth vs Dunn open the show, brimming with energy and inventiveness. The GIFs above chronicle the match's final minutes, a showcase of innovative reversals and stymied expectations. The fourth, fifth, and sixth GIFs show the heel Ashley Dunn (in sleeveless top) turn familiar wrestling moves - bulldog, rollover, and torpedo - on end at the last second. The mid-flight alterations are both amusing and majestic.
Though neither wrestler is ripped, they are strong and fast. They are well matched in body type, pale, sturdy, and stout, though babyface Sammy Smooth is several inches taller and a few pounds heavier than Dunn. They play off each other splendidly, the more so the more the match builds to the resolution. Dunn's cruelty of course fascinates me. When Smooth signals a two-count with his fingers, Dunn grabs them and yanks them apart (seventh GIF).
Though the fight relies too much on tricks, the tricks do work. I find the match immensely entertaining, even hot, thanks to the wrestlers' commitment and dare-all attitude.
