Jesse Zane vs Austin Sugar, Catalog 21 - Boys Will Be Boys (MuscleBoy Wrestling)
Catalog 21 lists this match last, but it was the match I was most looking forward to. Jesse's the reason. Even before there was a Muscleboy, he pioneered a distinctly different approach to gay wrestling, one that highlighted the eroticism of boxing and grappling. His take was that tight, skimpy gear and body contact were only part of the sport's allure. He put new emphasis on the element of pain, which had been largely relegated to torture-chamber and superhero scenarios, which put fighting on the periphery, often completely out of the picture. Jesse saw S&M play as central to the erotic fight. And on that point I heartily agree with him.
Austin Sugar is a bit taller and heavier than Zane, but he's an excellent match for JZ nonetheless. Jesse makes him squirm and moan. If you can read lips, check out Jesse in the seventh GIF, where he taunts Austin, saying, "You're in pain, right?" Jesse's winning, but the competition means less to him than the titillating thrill of making Sugar flinch. Austin looks even better here than he did in his two previous MBW matches in 2019, where he made a big impression on me. We get a better look at him in this match, and Jesse can be thanked for that, too, always exhibiting his opponent's assets to camera and fans. I would have enjoyed a bit more fight out of Austin here (and in previous matches), but there's no denying the beauty of his suffering at Jesse's hands.
