Two Kirks

Kirk Donahue vs Biff Farrell, Mirror Mirror (BG East)

Clever twists often rub me the wrong way, but the ones in this fight (and, yes, there are more than one) show exceptional imagination topped with mighty fine ring wrestling. The first and most essential of these twists is given away in the BGE Catalog 146 product description (which I contributed to), so no harm done in spoiling it here. 

The angle involves two versions of Kirk Donahue - jobber Kirk and heel Kirk - occupying opposite sides of the ringside mirror. Jobber Kirk frets over the fact that his opponent, the delish Biff Farrell, is a noshow. He shrugs his shoulders and slouches out of the ring room. The camera turns back to the mirror, soon filled with heel Kirk, snickering at his reflection and then turning his eyes to the late-arriving Biff, greeting him with the ominous words "I'm probably your worst nightmare."

The rest is a battle between muscle (Biff) and cunning (Kirk), and the results are not what I expected. There are more twists and turns in the match's first half than in most two matches crammed together. This would have been a great heel turn for Kirk, but we have already seen his dark side in previous releases, and yet origin stories often do appear late in a series as flashbacks. Biff does not shrink away from the challenge, and he puts up what may be his best fight ever.

Raw emotion, frayed nerves, astounding firepower, and a surprising finale make Kirk vs Biff unmissable, particularly to fans of Donahue or Farrell and generally to fans of good squared-circle fights, underground style.
