Jake Scorpio vs Scott Randsome, Arena 23 (BG Enterprise)
Scott Randsome and Jake Scorpio put up a strenuously messy three-fall match. Messy is not a bad thing to my way of thinking. It means the battle is not so rehearsed as to be mistaken for acrobatics. Messy means realistic in its portrayal of aggression, which, unless you're Bruce Lee, is not brisk and not methodical. It is spur-of-the-moment improvisation, a desperate and cumbersome launching of oneself against an adversary.
The heat of the moment tends to blind fighters to rules and strategies. It inspires Scorpio to drill his pointy elbow into Randsome's upper vertebrae and bite his leg. It inspires Randsome to jerk Scorpio's head by a fistful of the dude's dark hair and scratch his fingers across the guy's eyelids. Messy is how Godzilla kicked buzzsaw monster Gigan's cyborg butt. Messy gets shit done.
This is the way two strong foes-at-first-sight tear each other apart. Scott and Jake are well matched: just an inch and five pounds separate them. It's blond versus brunet, and there's no telling who has the fiercer temper. The messy emotions are what fuel the messy assaults. There's not a half-second of gentlemanly conduct to be seen in the 12-minute match. The wrestlers' recklessness suggests a deeply rooted hate. It's a miracle that no blood is spilled.
The match is almost thirty years old, but it's one I missed until last month. This is something I see myself watching again and again - and soon.

Your comments about this match, highlight something I've been noticing for a good bit of time now. I too find the matches at BG Enterprise or BG East or CAN-AM from the 1980s and 1990s to be much more interesting, erotic, and sensual/sexual than the matches coming out of Thunders Arena and (too some degree) BG East and Wrestle4Hire. The guys in the 1980s and 1990s were so much more into the wrestling AND the erotic sensual qualities of gay underground wrestling fantasies. The guys today all too often seem o be going through the motions but not really showing any enthusiasm for the erotic/ sensual qualities. I often have the sense the current venues offer video after video that are "same old, same old".

ReplyDeleteI have nearly all of the original BG from that neat warehouse wrestling ring room. The floor must have been filthy bc many matches sp. Arena series, the wrestlers barefeet are totally black on the bottoms at the start of the matches, so not dirty from the mats. Good tough dudes, sweat, muscle, holds. Nice matches.
