Scrappy McNair vs Brad Honeycutt, Catalog 23 - Good Boys Go Bad (MuscleBoy Wrestling)

Sure, he was a star from the beginning, but Scrappy built on his beginner's luck. He toughened up, packed on extra muscle, and made himself a master of ring psychology. MuscleBoy played a gigantic role in his growth and success, giving him room to flourish and fine-tune his persona, but Scrappy got to where he is today on his own, through discipline and steely attention to his art.

Instant popularity has ruined many a promising young wrestler. The temptation is to repeat what pleased fans at the start of one's career. But Scrappy continues to evolve, evidently a conscious and proactive decision, sharpening his performance style and broadening his range as hero, muscleboy, and potential heel. I don't think he's gotten to what he's aiming for yet, but his eagerness to grow and take on new challenges makes him one of the most intriguing personalities in wrestling.

Brad Honeycutt is a good adversary for Scrappy. He's the same weight and only a couple of inches taller. Like Scrappy, he has a taste for the drama of ring wrestling. He fights with determination and suffers soulfully. He has a couple of turns at beating up Scrappy, but for the larger portion of the match, he's caught in Scrappy's clutches. Both men play each turn as an epic event.

Along with Iceman versus Cash, Scrappy versus Honeycutt stands out in Catalog 23, which is blessed with a mother lode of wrestling talent. Scrappy summons memories of early Kevin Von Erich in his white trunks. It has never hurt a hot wrestler to appear to be fighting in his underwear. Add to that Scrappy's sweat and bouncing pecs and buttocks, and we see a young wrestler at the top of his game.
