Jonny Firestorm vs Yahoo Majors, Ringwars 35: In Their Rookie Years (BG East)

Taking or delivering a beating, Jonny Firestorm looks great. He's BG East's Everyman - When he's not getting pushed around by The Boss, he's making some muscle-stud look good, getting none of the glory while carrying eighty percent of the action on his shoulders, and when he's not doing that, he's playing the mischief-maker. This match gives us Ur-Jonny, primeval Jonny, baby Jonny, battling an opponent who's slightly taller, slightly heavier, and very mean.

Now I give the floor to my pal Dr. L, whose adoration of Firestorm outshines even mine - though only barely . Quoth the good doctor,

"For me, Jonny's buff and cut and shaved look is second only to his buff and cut and hirsute look. ... The only thing that might increase the sexiness of the finely chiseled Firestorm would be if we could transplant Davey Richards' sweat glands to him. Now that  would be a firestorm!

"I'll not throw out the fat-and-furry Firestorm--just about anything he does in the ring is worth watching and, often, studying--but the chiseled and hirsute Firestorm is an ideal. (And, chiseled or not, he's a nice guy. Outside the ring at least.)"

I could not have said it better, and I second every word of it. Jonny's smooth, chiseled, and dexterous body in Ringwars 35  is fresh, intense, seemingly weightless at times, and menacing when he needs to be. I wonder whether anybody, at the time this match was shot, sensed what a fantastic match he was for BG East. For me, he's emblematic of the promotion, as versatile in style, in sense of humor, in toughness, in resilience, and in daring.

The match ought to have been released a decade ago, but better late than never - it's a masterpiece!
