Rock and Scissors
Derek Ortiz vs Rock Petrov (Movimus Wrestling)
I'm of the opinion (still) that if you don't like mat grappling you don't really like wrestling. It's slow, messy, and sometimes hard to follow, sure, but it is the core of every other martial art, and at its best it's art, ritual, war, and playtime compressed into the bodies and limbs of the competitors. Ortiz and first-timer Petrov engage in strenuous and close-packed competition almost nonstop for twenty-five minutes, and the intensity persists through every minute of the battle. No other sport is this intimate. No other sport is as unremitting as this.
Rock and Derek are strong, and though Derek starts with the clear advantage, Rock challenges him every step of the way, and by the midpoint they are neck and neck. Derek's tall, lean physique maintains a full-body hold on Rock for almost the whole match. In retaliation, Rock uses his muscle mass to bear down on and exhaust his opponent. Midway through, what looked predictable at the start turns unpredictable as both men fight all pistons firing. Beautiful. Hot. Hypnotic. Grueling.
