Jonny Firestorm vs Mason Broder, Ring Singlets 1 (BG East)
Jonny Firestorm does his usual congenial host thing at the beginning of the match, transitioning slowly into the soft-spoken but ferocious bruiser we fans know him to be. Here he takes on Spanish wrestling impresario Mason Broder, looking good ... good and doomed, if you please. His broken English (not the only thing broken in this match) is no match for Firestorm's smooth talk and aggressive friendliness (the stereotypical U.S. citizen, I would say - all smiles until he gets down to business).
Naively, Mason imagines he is Jonny's equal. Not in a fuckmillion years, of course, but he says clearly though falteringly, "I'm not afraid of you>' To this, Jonny sorta grins and strokes the hair on his chinny- chin-chin. Jonny may be the most likable person in all of BG East, but he is somebody any sane person fears. The folksy manners are charming only when Firestorm is not twisting your balls.
In successive steps, Jonny destroys Broder a la collegiate wrestling, then a la pro wrestling, then a la back-alley brawl, one right after the other. It's as if Jonny is showing off his fluency in the vernaculars of pinfall, humiliation, and crippling pain. Pain is a universal language, as Broder learns quickly.
Slim and subdued as he is, Mason Broder survives all Jonny's attacks and immediately presents himself for further punishment. He gains no ground against Firestorm, but he takes everything launched against him and persists - until he is absolutely, 100-percent annihilated. Jonny reaches the point where he is picking his teeth with Mason's shinbone - and STILL the Spaniard invites more trouncing! How much pain can a man's body absorb? To this question, Mason Broder ultimately and courageously has the answer.
