Gunner Miller vs Dave Stage, SHW 41 (Southern Honor Wrestling)
Dave Stage - 6', 229#
Gunner Miller - 6'1", 242#
Here's a match to keep you warm as we move into autumn, then winter. It's seven minutes long, but it's a PACKED seven minutes. The GIFs above barely touch the surface - and there are no spoilers in this post. The match occurred in Canton, Georgia, in July. My friend Dr. L sent me the link this Sunday. "Something to go with your morning coffee," he wrote.
Big, solidly built men like Stage and Miller trigger something in me. Exactly what, I'm not sure of, but it feels like a cool breeze on my hard-on. The match is a clash between a heel who enjoys crippling his opponent (Dave: see images above: 2, 3, 6, and 7) and a stand-up guy ready to get as down and dirty as it takes to keep the heel from getting away with his ruthless behavior (Gunner: 4, 5, and 8)
This is the type of match that fires up the crowd in the South, and, in that respect, I am a true Southerner. As I have said on this blog on many occasions, I am moved by the clash of good versus evil, with no gray areas. Miller may be wearing the black trunks in this match, but he is fighting for what is decent, fair, and just.
The match sizzles, and a roving camera operator always manages to be in the right place at the right time. She or he or they are part of the match's choreography, gliding from post to post, capturing the battle's high points. The fuchsia lights match the event's tone, suggesting theatricality and otherness.
Again - thank you, Dr. L.
