Subjugation

Thornton is the king of painful submissions, and submissions are always about pain. You have to come to terms with pain if you step on a wrestling mat with CT. Derek Ortiz looks ready, and in fact he endures quite a bit of pain at the hands of Case Thornton. I figure Ortiz realizes his chances of dominating Thornton are slim, but for the love of submission wrestling and for the chance to learn from the master, he endures 28 minutes of joint-popping, breathless subjugation.

The struggle is gorgeous. The natural light gives it the soft-focus hues of perfume ads. The camera is at the right place every second of the fight, including directly above, looking down at the two firmly entwined bodies. There are few edits. The hard-to-miss cut is shortly after Case locks Derek in a figure-four headlock. Derek stubbornly refuses to tap out and suddenly goes limp. CT breaks the hold, and we get some hallucinogenic jump cuts before the match resumes, after a quick wardrobe change.

It's a chastening moment for Ortiz. Movimus's catalog description reminds us that this is the first time Case and Derek have faced off. Derek is used to being the company's unofficial alpha after years of honing his sub wrestling abilities. For Derek, Case comes as a shock and a wakeup call. He's never faced this tough a competitor. Few are better than CT at manhandling. At the moment, I can't think of even one.
