Jack Dillon vs Jason Aleqsander, Sweaty Rookie Squash (WrestleFrat)
I have nothing but praise for Jack Dillon, a heel I can be proud of. On top of his mid-period NWA-era bad-ass look (black trunks even, but smaller), the guy sweats like a pig and enjoys hurting rookie Jason Aleqsander way too much. What's not to love? And Aleqsander is a sweet piece of meat any heel worth his salt would be thrilled to destroy.
A tough, meaty guy like Dillon is perfect as a rassler. He's got the muscle to attack forcefully, yet he's not chiseled, not a Roman statue. He sweats beautifully, and his long ginger hair and hint of scruff along the jawline add to his roughneck creds. Jason has a handsome physique, youthfully lean with a prominent bulge stretching his red-orange trunks. And he, too, is a ginger, a fact that contributes to the fight's volatility.
Some of the body blows are more believable than others, but the overall sense of violence is steady and believable. As the title says, this is a squash mash. Jason gets a hope spot that's measurable in seconds. Mostly, there are Jack's joyful cruelties, infectious, lightning fast, and unbound by conscience or rulebook.

Shave the mustache and Dillon looks like a young Chris Jericho.
ReplyDeleteWas pleasantly surprised to see a match like this from Jason Aleqsander so soon as he's new to the scene (presumably with very minimal ring skills). But Dillion was his perfect scene partner for a match like this. Aleqsander reminds me a bit of Timothee Chalamet (stay with me here, lol), both young, charming, talented with immense potential, but still very inexperienced so has a kind of rawness and naivete to their performance. Match him up with someone experienced/confident/with brute strength like Dillion to take the lead, and it's the perfect set up for a classic squash. Makes me think of other early career matches of other young underground wrestling wunderkinds like Eli Black vs Morgan Cruz, Jake Jenkins vs Guido Genatto, Justin Pierce vs Bulldog Barzini etc.
