Sensual Friends in Thongs

Johnny Moon vs Johnny, Sensual Friends in Thongs (WrestleFrat)

Something about this video reminds me of early 1990s "heroin chic" and the controversial Calvin Klein ads. The bland setting and the objectivizing camera position, maybe. I like it. A lot. It's cold. But mainly I like it for another reason.

The video begins in the kitchenette. Johnny Moon (the blond) finds a message on the other Johnny's cell.  Johnny tells blond Johnny it's nothing to be concerned about. Johnny Moon backs away from the kitchenette. He searches through messages, seeking clues about Muscle Johnny's secret life. The two struggle over the phone.

It looks like it's going to be a fight. It is, in a way. But it's less a fight-fight than a way for the two to reconnect and tap down each other's suspicions. It's not always that we see matches straightforwardly addressing relationships beyond jobbers and heels.

Big Johnny instigates the tussle (to call it a "match" or a "fight" would misrepresent the video's tone).  Moon is up for a tussle, it turns out. I've often thought about wrestling as a way to soothe emotional conflicts and restore intimacy in male-male relationships - pals, roommates, teammates, lovers, husbands.

There's something formal (i.e., slow and dreamy) about this contest. Unexpectedly, the slimmer man (Moon) becomes dominant. Then, the advantage switches over to the other Johnny. Then, back and forth - still rather slowly - this is not an action-packed match. Eventually they strip down to thongs only. I see the "ceremony" as two men struggling to restore a bond. The grabbing and rolling skin on skin are ways to regain closeness and trust.

I might be 100% wrong in my interpretation. But I like it and I'm sticking with it, for now.
