Bone-Bruising Body Blows

Nick Flex vs Scrappy McNair, Finish Me - Catalog 38 (MuscleBoy)

I have never (never ever) seen a better, more convincing fight than this one, which delivers two incredible highspots for every minute of its 30 minutes. I counted. I kid you not. Not that I had any doubts with Nick and Scrappy in the MBW fightroom. In their first (believe it or not) bout together, they fulfill every wish I had for their inevitable pairing. This is mean, grueling, sweating, bone-cracking competition by two of underground wrestling's finest performers.

The camerawork is brilliant, serenely capturing each brutality, each whimper, each crack of knuckles slamming against muscle. As I have said for years, the MBW fightroom is the best setting for a fight - there's no escape from it, its dark walls accentuate the beauty of the brawlers' physiques - the chiaroscuro effect is at once foreboding and beautiful. There are no distractions from the spectacle of man beating the crap out of man.

The battle is not as one-sided as the GIFs suggest. I guess I must love the way Nick Flex saps Scrappy of his energy before landing the killing blow - like a matador. Scrappy has spots as fine and ferocious as Nick's. This is not a one-sided beatdown, but Flex does have fifty pounds of muscle beyond Scrappy's 175 pounds. Scrappy is not someone who rolls over and plays dead for anyone. You knock him down, and he gets up, shakes the cobwebs out of his head, and comes for you firing on all cylinders.

This is an instant underground classic. Missing this match is like missing Michelangelo's David in a cage fight with Marvel's Incredible Hulk.
