Derrick at Work

The match is not entirely one-sided despite what you see in the GIFs. I just love to watch Derrick Cole work an opponent. The guy has mastered the art of crucifying rookies. His long slow holds, topped off with bullet-like strikes, are both effective and hot. His nastiness intrigues me. Harvey Dale, in his second UCW match, has plenty of spots, too, but none are as distinctive or potentially crippling as Cole's. Everything Cole does in a ring has an edge to it. The guy is never not destroying his opponent.

Harvey has potential as a fighter, but his attacks lack the sharp dramatic punctuation of Derrick's attacks. He hasn't yet felt the joys of pain and pain-giving in his soul. He is not alone in this respect. It's a typical rookie phase, I think. Practicing his killer face in front of a mirror might help. Some wrestlers never discover a defining niche, and frankly are none the worse for it.

I can't rightly tell how Derrick became one of my obsessions. I assume he's straight but an ally. It's hard to believe, but this is his eighth year at UCW. He belongs to the wild-man school of wrestling. His run-in with Eli Black in 2021 is one for the books. He likes to hurt people and doesn't seem to mind getting hurt in the process. He has a comic edge, but it doesn't get in the way of his hot temper.
