Two closely matched opponents make for a raw and punishing match, and this face-off between Thornton and Rabell is an intense, sustained struggle that lasts for 22 minutes, not counting warm-ups, with only one submission, and that's in the final seconds. 

Our two battlers are the same height, with a two-pound difference in weight, and two years' difference in age. This is the kind of match that gets me hardest, with two athletes locked together, trying to make the other man give. The sudden thrusts and slams are animal.

It's real, not kayfabe. And though the contest is fair and square, with concern for both athletes' well-being, it gets survival-of-the-fittest intense ... bordering on vicious. This is twelve years ago. Thornton, under various names, has since become a central figure in underground wrestling in America.
