Taking On Thomson

Hayden Thomson vs Kirk Donahue, Hunkbash 29 (BG East)

Kirk Donahue is halfway through a biceps pose when new hire Hayden Thomson stops doing push-ups and stands. Kirk's expression is somewhere between oh-shit and I'm-fainting. Nobody told him that being a heel is easy. Up to now, his heaviest opponent has been Guido Genatto at 235 pounds. That was in Donahue's babyface years, also known as the smashed-flat years. Hairy-chested Hayden Thomson, at 240 pounds, is 70 pounds heavier than Kirk. Most of Kirk's opponents have been under 200 pounds and smooth as hardboiled eggs.

Kirk takes a staggered step back. Then, gathering his courage, he delivers a forearm strike to Hayden's chest, twice. Hayden is unmovable. Then, Kirk bounds off the ring ropes and collides with the new hire's outstretched arm. Kirk lands hard and flops around like a fish on dry ground. Hayden doesn't wait for Kirk to recover. He slaps the "heel" to the mat and body-slams him, With some gumption, Kirk hops to his feet and rides Hayden's back, attempting a choke hold. Again, Hayden slaps him to the mat.

A low blow at the seven-minute mark puts Kirk in the driver's seat. Here is the heel advantage - fuck fair play, fight dirty. Kirk targets Hayden's knees and ankles, in an attempt to keep the heavyweight flat on the ring floor, writhing. The soles of Thomson's shoes don't touch the mat for the next thirteen minutes as Kirk cripples the new hire. After a short breather, Kirk throws himself into the task of crippling his opponent all the way to a sweaty finish. Heel status is secure.
