Guido Genatto vs Zach Reno, Hunkbash 20 (BG East)
Dirty Daddy Genatto targets Reno's mane as if it were a personal insult, as if he were wreaking vengeance on behalf of all us baldies. Five years ago, the first thing I noticed about Zach was his "dark curly hair (it just begs for tugging)," As the main event of Hunkbash 20 opens, Reno's vanity over his luscious locks blinds the hunk to the dangers that await him. He urges Guido to brush his hair, introducing the hairbrush that will soon be brandished against him.
At last, BG East has put its nastiest heel in the same ring as its tastiest babyface. By itself, the lengthy headscissors towards the beginning is worth the price of admission, with Guido flashing his best DeNiro smirk towards the camera while Zach's forehead gets all veiny from the pressure of Genatto's thighs. Happily, Reno musters his years of ring experience to save the match from being the relentless squash job that most of Guido's underground matches are. We get a real fight here.
Other underground sites pull in bodybuilders and porn stars, and I appreciate that. But BG East pulls in indie wrestlers who know how to combine moves and holds, react, and turn a fight into a compelling story. My preference is usually for honest-to-goodness mat wrestling, but if you're going to have a ring, you might as well hire talent who know how to make that ring hum like a well-tuned engine. I don't want to overstate his chances against a brute like Genatto, but in addition to selling a wide array of Guido's torments, Reno mounts a plausible and often effective resistance.
Also, without a live audience, Zach and Guido are not limited to big moves like body slams and hurricanranas. They employ highly physical grappling techniques and closeup assaults like eyelid scratching, claw holds, and, of course, hair yanking - hearkening back to the golden years of TV rasslin'. The entangling of the hairy thighs and hairy torsos packs more heat than a blowjob for a fetishist like me. With sweat on top of these clenches, real sweat or Vaseline, this match would have been perfect.
