Dirty Dimitri

Tiko vs Dimitri, Pride in Private 1 (BG East)

There was no way Dimitri was going to top his villainous performance at Wrestling for Pride 2, but it looked entirely likely that he was going to top Tiko. In his year-plus career at BG East, Tiko has been crushed by some of the best - Ace Aarons, Elite Eliot, Chase Addams, and Ethan Axel Andrews. I saw no reason for hope that he'd best as vain, duplicitous, and burly a heel as Dimitri.

The Frenchman's tirade against America at May's big event in South Florida had the crowd booing and hissing in the palm of his hand. With no live audience to offend, Dimitri makes do with speaking only French to the affable Tiko - which must be satisfying revenge for him, since most American visitors to France don't even bother to learn bonjour  and merci.

But when Dimitri attacks Tiko from behind, he learns quickly that Tiko has some fire in him and will not hesitate to pay him back not only for the cowardly assault but also for the unnecessary French. Tiko executes two highly impressive flying headscissors (top photo), but Dimitri trips him up in his try for a third. He catches Tiko midflight and slaps him to the mat. Ouch.

Though weighted heavily in Dimitri's favor, the fight consists of more give and take than I expected. Both wrestlers work up a sweat and gladly land some punches when conventional wrestling holds appear insufficient to the moment. The last part of the battle is my favorite because the action turns nasty and ultra-violent, with both wrestlers taking some hard hits.

A chokeout identifies the victor - but there's too much rage in the air for the fight to end this matter-of-factly. All in all, this is my favorite of the three matches comprising Pride in Private 1  because of its mounting intensity and because of, well, Dimitri's soulful eyes and blistering scowl, too.
