Cole Cassidy vs Kirk Donahue, Old School Meets New School 2 (BG East)

Surely this is a match that will please fans of both or either of these wrestlers. Kirk, newly minted as a heel, wraps a steel chain around his knuckles before entering the ring where Cole is waiting. Kirk hides his reinforced fist behind his back as he smiles at the veteran heel, a man as mean as they come, but not a man, as best as I remember, who relied on more than his hard muscle and inhumanity to beat his challengers.

The draw of heel-vs-heel fights is here magnified by a difference in age and experience. Kirk is experienced, of course, but he's relatively late to the heel game, a situation he seeks to remedy with added steel. Words are exchanged to emphasize how historic this battle will be. Cole promises Kirk that he (Kirk) will have stories to tell when it's all over with. Kirk glibly replies that Cole will not be talking at all. Kirk offers his hand in a show (a mere  show) of sportsmanship. No sooner does Cole reach out to him than Kirk slams the chain-bolstered fist into Cassidy's gut.

When I told my friend Dr L that an upcoming match featured Kirk vs Cole, I spared him the details. He replied, "If there's even just ten minutes total of Kirk wiping the ring with Cassidy's sweaty screaming ass, I'll be fine." Since I have good reason to believe that Dr L received the first copy of this match, I'm pretty sure that - right now - he's far better than just "fine." I suspect he is up to three boxes of tissues by now.

This is a tough, sexy, sweaty, and brutal duel. Kirk controls the first half of it, but, halfway through, Cassidy picks himself up and seeks retribution with the ardor of a Greek Fury. And when he gets his hands on Donahue's chain, ... well, look out, Kirk! That pretty Irish ass is about to get burned. Whether Kirk can survive this onslaught and regain his advantage - with or without the chain in hand - should be left for the fans to find out for themselves. All in all, this is among the best works of either Donahue or Cassidy - and we will all have stories to tell when it's over.
