Attention Grabber

Cody Everett vs Jett Bentley, Absolute Destruction (88Wrestling)

The official backstory, as given in 88's catalog description, is that this is a breakup match between old friends Cody and Jett. Jett, we're told, thinks Cody is garnering attention that rightly belongs to Bentley. The setup and motivation seem plausible, and I do love a brawl between two exes, and it may well be that this is the two new hires' most recent wrestling video. If I were King of 88, however, I would have plugged this as Cody's introduction to 88 - or, better, an audition video newly freed from the vault, shot before he or Jett felt self-assured enough in front of the camera to mount the sterling performances we've seen in previous releases, notably Cody's near-upset in his official debut against Rex Bedford and Jett's controlled and gutsy rumble with Ethan Andrews in January.

The focus on abs, though, totally justifies the match's title. Midsections get punched, squeezed, clawed, stomped, stretched, and twisted, if not absolutely destroyed. Both college-aged men are in good condition, and Cody, in particular, takes a long, hard punishment and still looks great in the closing shots. Jett controls most of the match, but whether he can win the required two falls and move on to face Bedford in a rematch is another question.

  1. This is one instance where I have no favorite. They're both so hot and watch worthy. Inevitably, I suppose, I'd probably think the loser got robbed, no matter who won.

  2. What do you mean by "If I were King of 88, however, I would have plugged this as Cody's introduction to 88"? the video is not as good as recent performances? Now I'm second guessing

    1. I didn't like it as much as their previous releases. You may disagree. The pacing was off, and neither wrestler seemed to be enjoying himself. Fine bodies, though.
