Zack Reno vs Max Ryder, Match 736 - Falls Count Anywhere (UCW)

Zack the UCW Champion invites us to a tour of the UCW studios, but soon as we get through the front door, there's Max Ryder wearing Zack's belt, which Max wants for keeps.  A tug of war careens through a cloud of helium balloons to the restroom, and then champ and usurper break in on a match in process, then whirl from mats to the ring to the mats again (my favorite part of the video) and back to the edge of the ring. The battle delivers not only a peek at the wings of the UCW soundstage but also a few cameo appearances.

The GIFs capture incidents in only the first fifth of the brawl. There is a lot of great stuff I chose not to spoil for interested viewers. This is the sort of hairy-assed lunacy that UCW is good at. Ballpoint pens, birthday balloons, toilet, refrigerator, all turn into weapons. Comic wrestling usually just annoys me, but for some reason I can't keep the smile off my face for most of this battle. UCW is good that way - taking Three Stooges shtick and mixing it up with Jason Bourne-style melee.

The 30-minute match pays homage to UCW founder and August 22nd birthday boy BodySlam. A belated happy birthday, Michael. You changed underground wrestling for me.

  1. Yeah, Joe. Agree entirely about Michael and UCW. They do so consistently well in making their catalogue of matches so satisfying. Gimmickry in wrestling I usually loathe. But UCW makes things like oil and strip matches terrific, with compelling wrestling action. I hope they're around forever.
