Nero Angelo vs Anton Alvarez, Match 794 - Chloroform Match (UCW)

All of underground wrestling is experiencing a renaissance right now - new talent, new angles,  new approaches to wrestling as aggro-erotic entertainment. It's exhilarating to see fresher and riskier scenarios and angles. Perhaps the pandemic has forced some of them to take new paths; others are transitioning to new leadership with fresh visions of what underground wrestling is. It's all daring and refreshing. UCW has always been changing and experimenting, taking chances. Its output is both volcanic and hit and miss - risks that more promotions are now willing to take.

We welcome newbie Anton Alvarez in Match 794, who falls in the capable hands of Nero Angelo, whose persona has changed radically over the past two years - from lecherous heel to good guy, a strongman who doesn't have to cheat to win. This fight with Alvarez raises the question of whether Nero's reformation makes him more vulnerable to opponents' opportunism and treachery. Case in point, new hire Anton brings chloroform to the UCW mat room, unwilling to tackle a juggernaut like Nero on the up and up.

I'm not a fan of chloroform matches. If somebody needs to get knocked out, I prefer it be done with a punch or a five-minute chokehold. In reality, five minutes is how long it takes chloroform to work. Perhaps with a longer, messier, body-to-body struggle, I could warm up to the idea of "better wrestling through chemistry." Happily, chloroforming takes up little time in this match. Anton uses it mostly to weaken his more muscular opponent and give himself a chance to defeat Angelo. Of course, there's nothing to stop the newly reformed Nero from turning the tables on the new hire.
