Stress and Strain

Lorenzo "Jake" Lowe vs Skip Vance, X-Fights 56 (BG East)

I'm a Jake fan. If you want to know why, just watch him tear into Skip Vance in X-Fights 56 (now in Own-to-Arena, but soon to be available on DVD). Obviously, this match occurred years ago, but it feels fresh, undamaged by its time in the BGE vault.

Jake remains coolheaded throughout the match. From the shoulders up, he might as well be playing chess or performing brain surgery. You cannot read his face. Vance studiously provokes each assault. He wants a reaction When least expected, Lowe becomes a danger to life and limb, but if Jake is anything it's measured and deliberate. His painful assaults happen so fast that they're over before his opponent is aware of them. Jake strikes so fast that it takes Skip several seconds to realize he's been owned

Skip is famous for his suffering. It is funny and dire by turns. Just when I'm about to laugh or roll my eyes, I imagine the pain ripping through Skip's slender body. Jake and Skip both know what they want. They want to exhaust themselves against each other and then fuck like alley cats, Jake triumphantly and Skip also triumphantly as he gets exactly what he wanted all along.
