Axel versus Wolf Boy

Axel vs Wolf Boy, Match 628 - in Oil  (UCW)

The contest ends the way I expected it to. I'm all right with that. It's an oil match, and only the rare oil match goes south. This one definitely does NOT go south. That said, if some of the cute talk had ended up on the cutting room floor, I would not have missed it. All in all, the 34-minute video offers much to please even the casual fan of underground wrestling and has enough bite to make converts of doubters.

Besides the oil, the match offers maximum body contact between Axel and Wolf Boy, its sensuousness reaching a peak in the final minutes. Legs entwined with legs is always a special turn-on for me, and both men have long, sinewy legs, a fact well demonstrated about six-and-a-half minutes into the contest. The times when Axel rides Wolf Boy pack plenty of tingles, too, as do the scissor holds, which hardly ever fail to "do the trick" for me. I would have better enjoyed the chest-to-chest and belly-to-belly strokes without the interfering harnesses. Yet the beard and scruff gave the whole thing the right tone of manliness - for my tastes, anyway.

Wolf Boy's best matches are still, in my opinion, the preceding three. His debut against Chase Michaels managed to balance the joys of oil and an unmistakable sense of menace ("menace" being a quality Chase exudes naturally). In his match against Erik the Viking, "Wolfie" took his wolf gimmick to its extreme, but Erik did a good job of reining in the newcomer and putting him in his place - not so very different from what Axel accomplishes in this match. In Match 626, Wolf Boy squared off against the bad boy of all bad boys, the recklessly savage Quinn Harper, and totally wrecked the guy ... twice - with a headbutt to the nuts, capped with a bracing monkey flip, and later, when Quinn sneak-attacked him from behind, with a devastating body slam and a boldly delivered three-count.

Axel's previous three UCW matches are worth revisiting, too. His August match against up-and-comer David Flawless was Axel at his most masterful. If Flawless meant to make a name for himself in that match, he might have wished for a better one than Axel pegged him with. Axel's next battle, against another newcomer, Keelin, may be my favorite UCW match of 2018 (it runs neck and neck with Axel's jaw-dropping dick fight against  Chase Michaels, who has a knack for bringing out the best fight in his opponents). Most recently, El Fuego put Axel through the wringer, yet Axel confirmed his reputation for snatching victory from the jaws of defeat at the very last second!

If Match 628 falls short of these previous fights, it's not by much. Both veteran and rookie know how to keep a fight lively, and there's no way I would have passed up the chance to see Axel and Wolf Boy on the mat together.
