Hotter Than a Firecracker

Nobody's hotter than Danny Del Toro, but in this match star-spangled Dimitri Darkthorn gives him a run for his money. Up till now, most of Del Toro's matches at W4H have been pointedly one-sided. They've shown off Danny's irascibility and surgically precise punishments. In response to his debut match against Kyoshi Bloom, I proclaimed Danny "a god among heels." Even I thought that might be precipitous praise. But he backed up my initial impression in killer performances against Jacob Van Acker (I called Danny "both a bad ass and a stud") and Alexander Greystrokes ("All three of DDT's matches are instant classics," I gushed).

Dimitri Darkthorn is the first of his adversaries to show some potential for kicking Toro's ass. He's as pretty as his forebears and he sells Danny's attacks splendidly, but more than once he turns the tables on the heel - and these are not entirely inconsequential reprisals. This is the most give and take in Danny's still short history at Wrestler4Hire, and he sells pain almost as well as he dispenses it. Del Toro dominates more than 60 percent of the action, but Darkthorn, though slender and clean-cut, puts significant dents in the heel-god - and the wrestlers put each other over in a match that outshines DDT's previous contests.

  1. I have been waiting for a DDT match with more give and take, so upon seeing your post, i bought the download, the positives, both fighters look great, the gear is sexy, they exhibit a decent amount of sweat and the download was simple as i have purchased from W4H before, but i was underwhelmed. I wonder if something is lost when there is not a crowd present to provide feedback/reaction to what the fighters are doing. DDT is an accomplished indy wrestler and his matches posted on YT reflect his considerable talent, he clearly has skills, but, and he is not alone in this regard, in the private ring with only the cameraman to witness the action, seems to be holding back, the punches have less impact, the wrestling seems scripted and not free flowing, i can't blame his opponent, cause Dmitri exhibited reasonable ring presence, and after all i have seen Kota Ibushi wrestle a blowup doll to some believably, so someone with DDT's talent should be able to carry the weaker man. As an example, during our current confinement, i have been watching Steven Colbert on A Late Show, where he delivers the same monologue from his den that he had been doing from the ES Theater for years, but without the audience feedback and laughter, it falls short, i can't fault Colbert's performance, because he seems on cue, but it is clearly not the same. To my recollection, the underground company that did this best was BG East and the Bratpack series, sadly all evidence of which has been wiped off their website, but most of those basement brawls had 3 or 4 of their friends present, behind the camera, shouting encouragement/insults to the 2 fighters on screen, the combatants would pick up on this feedback and drawing inspiration, would perform for their audience. It was a better fight as a result. When Cameron blogs about his shoots it seems there are plenty of other fighters around, maybe on his next filming he can invite them in to verbally bear witness to the action and provide the platform for these obviously talented fighters to live up to their ability.

I have noticed that this has been a rather long winded comment, but in my defense, after working from home for over 30 days, i finally broke down and got a desk, so this keyboard rambling is what happens when a person who is hard pressed to keep an interoffice memo to less than 3 pages is released from the impediments presented by working around the centerpiece and other nonsense that is placed on my former workspace and present dining room table. #IWas3DaysAwayFromGettingCarpalTunnel

  2. Well I don't know about Topher, but I also bought this match based on your review and I loved it. Both guys look phenomenal, the action is hard hitting and the dialogue, at times, is entertaining . Dimitri is my new obsession, I need to get his other matches. I love his star and stripes!
